Resources for healthcare professionals created in collaboration with the RCN

In collaboration with the RCN, we have developed a suite of assets, resources, interviews to inform and guide nurses and healthcare professionals when caring for their skin.

With hand washing one of the key ways to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, there is an increased risk of dry, sore or even damaged skin. If left untreated or unprevented, there is a possibility that unhealthy skin could lead to skin disorders and contact dermatitis, that may discourage hand hygiene actions.

It is key for healthcare workers including nurses to follow correct hand hygiene procedures, frequently moisturise, use appropriate products and keep an eye out for symptoms of skin damage: Browse our resources below along with links to the RCN’s own webpage on skin health.

“Everyone is much more aware of the need to clean their hands regularly, whether with sanitiser or soap and water. And with that, comes a heightened risk of sore hands.”

Rose Gallagher, Professional Lead for Infection Prevention and Control at the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).
